GWWI Women and Water Training Program - An Integrated Approach to Provide Ongoing Support to Grassroots Women
Grassroots Women and Water Training - Introducing WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) planning strategies, appropriate technologies, and ongoing leadership development to grassroots women who have experience in community development. Women leaders are selected based on a solid track record of experience in community organizing, project management and implementing solutions to WASH or climate change.
The GWWI Grassroots Women and Water Training is a year-long training program that consists of a one week hands-on training followed by a year of peer support and refresher trainings. The program will culminate in a specific community-based water project in their respective communities.
Advanced Trainer's in Training Program and Fellows Program- Strengthening the capacity of WASH trainers and GWWI Grassroots Training Graduates and increasing their stable of services to become well-rounded facilitators and facilitators in all aspects of WASH. These candidates would continue on to become full service trainers in future Grassroots Women's Trainings.
The GWWI Fellowship Program integrates a global team of women graduate students and development professionals into both the Advanced and Grassroots Training Programs. Fellows will gain a holistic and hands-on training in international development, WASH-related education and appropriate technology. They will participate in trainings and field visits, assisting Grassroots Teams in the implementation of their water projects. They will also support the monitoring and evaluation process for GWWI.
2011 East African Women and Water Training
The 2011 East African Training program mobilized 55 African and international women to address the impact of climate change as it relates to water access, quality, and sanitation in their communities.

2011 UGANDA TRAINING TIMELINE
Week 1 - Advanced Training - GWWI Trainers, Trainers–in-Training and Fellows will attend a 5-day training where they will learn the GWWI curriculum and how to conduct trainings. They will attend more comprehensive workshops focused on WASH Education, Leadership Development, Action Planning and Livelihood Development. Participants will exchange strategies and approaches in their facilitation techniques.
Week 2 - Grassroots Training - This training will welcome 15 new teams of women leaders from throughout East Africa to learn WASH Education, appropriate technology construction, leadership development, action planning and livelihood development. The Trainers and Fellows will prepare Grassroots Participants for their year-long effort to bring community-based WASH projects to their communities.
Week 3 – Evaluation and Site Visits - The participants of the Advanced Training will convene to evaluate the trainings, schedule refresher trainings for the Grassroots Participant teams, and conduct site visits to 'failed' and 'successful' projects in and around Kampala in order to discern challenges from best practices?
Week 4-16 – Onsite Refresher Trainings for Grassroots Teams – A combination of Advanced Trainers, Trainers-in-Training and Fellows will conduct week-long refresher trainings in the communities of the 15 Grassroots Participant teams. They will plan, prep, coordinate and offer customized refresher trainings in each of these ?
1 Year of Ongoing Peer Support: GWWI Fellows will be assigned 3 Grassroots Participant teams to support their continued success, troubleshoot challenges, and report out on their needs and impact.
